Jeremy Lipking – Painting the figure painting with oils

Jeremy Lipking, who was born November 2, 1975, in Santa Monica, California, is the son of a professional illustrator. While he emphasizes that he did not begin his formal studies until his late teens, the young artist’s early exposure to art gave him a sense of taste, perhaps the most important component of an artistic education. Lipking found himself most inspired by historic painters who combined the figurative tradition of the nineteenth century European art academies with an emphasis on the naturalistic landscape. Stephen Perkins – Ecorché – two sessions

Stephen Perkins is a figurative sculptor working in the classical tradition. Having spent his youth on the Mediterranean, Stephen was inculcated with the timeless beauty of its art, architecture and culture. Taken at an early age by the love of such things and Michelangelo in particular, Stephen pursued that path. If his efforts have proven successful then an analysis of the course taken will show that this success is largely based on an artistic training that is somewhat unique in these times. In a period when even decent figurative art training was difficult to find, Stephen sought out and studied with multiple sculptors, draughtsmen, painters and anatomists with links to a past that had seemingly vanished. more…

It was at this time that he learned the value of academic figure drawing and the importance of applying these strict study principles to his craft. With this methodology, Tony became an exemplary painter, capable of great versatility, ranging from quick alla prima landscapes to thoughtfully rendered larger scale works. He embraces romanticism in painting, placing the feelings of the artist above all, so he paints life as he sees it through his own eyes. more…
